Our Newest Releases: 2008 & 2009 Reds

Sangiovese Select 2008
Silver Medal,
2011 National Women's Wine Competition

A ruby red wine that sparkles in the glass, filled with spicy red cherry aromas and flavors. 36 months of barrel aging impart smooth soft tannins and a light cedar touch to the lingering finish.

Sweet Sunrise Vineyard (now Sand Reckoner) • 24/bottle

Sonoita Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Dark, dark grape color heralds the intense wine that follows. Black skinned fruit, actually the skins of black fruits and a hint of oak greet the nose. The taste is full and expansive with black raspberries and a hint of licorice followed by soft oak tannins. Sonoita dust weaves throughout the entire experience of this wine.

  Rancho Rossa Vineyard • 36/bottle

Estate Scavenger's Blend 2009

A dark, dark wine belies the presence of Zinfandel. Syrah and Mourvedre provide the spicy, black pepper, cinnamon and fleshy dark fruit aromas and flavors. Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and new American Oak mix in chocolate and lovely tannins. This wine will tickle your mouth for a very long time. The Riesling? – somewhere in there - subtle, evasive, and seductive.

  Canelo Hills Vineyard • 31/bottle

Estate Tempranillo 2009

Dense, brilliantly clear garnet color. Dusty Sonoita black plum and aromatic cedar aromas fill the glass. Mocha, chocolate, plum flavors and mid-palate tannins are supported by a solid acidic backbone. Classic Canelo Hills Tempranillo.

  Canelo Hills Vineyard • 33/bottle

2009 Estate Finale
Bronze Medal,

2011 AWGA/AZ Republic Wine Competition
Dark rich grapey Cabernet Sauvignon colors, aromas and flavors, but the overall experience is a delicious “wine candy”.
  Canelo Hills Vineyard • 22/bottle

Zinfandel 2009 It’s difficult to grow Zinfandel in Arizona because of the monsoon rains that usually hit just at harvest time. 2009 was an exception – the summer was long and dry and this Zinfandel has turned into a lovely medium-bodied dry wine completely characteristic of Zinfandel. The wine is dark red and opaque, modest oak, with classic Zinfandel jammy fruit.
  Sweet Sunrise Vineyard • Alcohol 12.2% • 19/bottle

Syrah 2009 This is my last crop of Willcox Syrah from Sweet Sunrise Vineyard. The vineyard has changed hands and Rob and Sarah Hammelman are busily turning it into their own. I view this as a classic Willcox Syrah – delicate dark skinned fruit and rich spicy finish. It will age for a long time and probably reach its peak long after it's sold out in the tasting room.
  Sweet Sunrise Vineyard • Alcohol 13.3% • 22/bottle

Other Available Wines

Riesling 2010 The glass glows as the sun shines through this wine.
It is thick and rich in the mouth with complex acids.
The smells and tastes of pineapple, lemon-lime, and baked Gravenstein apple are complemented by a
minerally-slate mouth feel and lingering sense of sweetness.
  Dragoon Mountain Vineyard • Alcohol 13.5% • 21/bottle

Pinot Grigio 2010 This wine is sparkling clear and throws off smells of
honeysuckle, citrus and spice. The mouth is filled
with a buttery, mango flinty-ness. Yum.
  Dragoon Mountain Vineyard • Alcohol 14.2% • 22/bottle

Gewürztraminer 2010 This is a special wine. Compared to our 2009 that
was all apple pie spices, this 2010 vintage is roses,
blossom and lychee fruit. The mouth feel is thirstquenching and bright with an acidic sweetness. No
residual sugar here, just fruit.
  Dragoon Mountain Vineyard • Alcohol 14.0% • 25/bottle

Malvasia 2009
SOLD OUT

This Malvasia, whose previous vintage was the
2009 AWGA White Wine of the Year, is a truly unique white wine that has an intoxicating perfume nose and notes of roses, peaches and pears. The finish is completely and surprisingly dry.
  Sweet Sunrise Vineyards • Alcohol 15.6% • 28/bottle

Sangiovese 2008

Brilliant color with subtle currant, floral and cedar aromas lead to balanced fruit flavors and a crisp bright finish that is typical of a Chianti.
  Sweet Sunrise Vineyards • Alcohol 13% • 17/bottle

Merlot 2009 A beautiful dark red color, fragrances of berry and
mint greet the nose. This wine has muted fruit and
oak flavors and very soft pleasant tannins. This is a
wine that perfectly typifies the request “I’d like a glass
of Merlot please.”
  Rancho Rossa Vineyard • Alcohol 12.2% • 21/bottle

Estate Syrah 2008
Bronze Medal,
2011 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition
Bronze Medal,
2010 National Womens Wine Competition

Dark garnet in color, the nose is an intoxicating mix of roses and black plum skin. This elegant wine tastes of mild freshly ground white pepper and wine poached black cherries and leaves a lovely, lingering smooth tannic finish in the mouth.
Canelo Hills Vineyard • Alcohol 13.9% • 38/bottle

Estate Tempranillo 2008
Silver Medal,
2011 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition

SOLD OUT

The dark, almost opaque red color of this wine makes a wine glass look rich. The nose is muted black currants and blackberries with a hint of leather and coffee. The taste is all about dark skinned fruits such as black plums and figs with nicely balanced tannins and acidity that linger long after the wine is swallowed.
  Canelo Hills Vineyard • Alcohol 13.7% • 29/bottle

Yummy Zin

This fortified wine begins with a wild stewed brambleberry cobbler bouquet. The wildness continues with a powerful jammy, confectionary fruit taste. A combination of grapes from the 2007, 2008 and 2009 vintages.
  Sweet Sunrise Vineyards • Alcohol 18.3% • 20/bottle
